Center of Gravity

The class has been studying center of gravity. They will visit the following sites:
center of gravity class experiments
Glenn Learning experiments
National Aeronautics

You will then design an experiment to find the center of gravity on some object of your own. Write a lab report to include (purpose, materials list, procedure & data table if applicable)

They also tried the following activities & posted their results on their blogs.
* Sit sideways on your seat with feet positioned so they are not under the seat.
* Stand with the front tips of your feet against the wall. Then stand on your tiptoes.
* Stand with your heels against the wall. Can you touch your toes without falling over?

Customizing your Blog

Your blog is a way to tell your audience about yourself, share favorites, images, links, etc. - Task - Personalize your blog by updating your profile (add a picture) You will do this by using the dashboard. Select the help link and type "personal photograph", instructions will be provided. Also, add a link to the class physics wiki page. Hint, choose "customize" and then add a page element.

Try your trouble shooting skills to see if you can follow online instructions. Help your neighbor if they get stuck.

Gizmo - Potential Energy on Shelves

Today you will be working with the Gizmo, "Potential Energy on Shelves". There are 2 main sections Calculating Gravitational Potential Energy and Gravitational Potential Energy & Work. Answer the questions on the Exploration Guide handout & post on your personal blog. Include 3 graphics illustrating the process as you complete the activity.

Newton's 3rd Law of Motion

You have been working with Newton's 3rd law action/reaction. Check out the physics tutorial & respond to the questions in your personal blog. You can check your answers online, but expand your thinking by explaining WHY it is so.

You Tube Video

Interactive Phun Curriculum

Check out the baseball video link & respond to which Newton law it relates to.

You recently performed the balloon jet activity in physics, discuss your findings.

Day 5 - Gizmos

Today the students worked with science Gizmos and the Explore Learning website. This was simply an exploratory learning activity where they could try out several different science gizmos. The class was enthusiastic and seemed to really enjoy this hands on learning activity.

Next week they will use the Gizmos again in a more guided activity and they will also post about their favorite gizmo on their personal blog.

Day 4 - Testing using Exam View

The test for chapter 2 was taken online and once students were finished with the test I could show the original test and score breakdown to students.

They also used the remaining time after the test to post additional comments related to the applied science articles.

Day 3 - Applied Science Article

Students checked online to locate an article where applied science was used to solve a current problem. Articles ranged from food such as chocolate and peanut butter to ways of improving department of defense strategies. Students posted a link to the articles found and then commented on other students' articles.

Day 1 Scientific Method/Pure vs applied science

On the 1st day of class you discussed the scientific method and learned what makes a good experiment and a bad experiment. You also learned the difference between pure science and applied science.

Discuss these concepts and provide an example of pure science and applied science.
